The Leafs begin a very tough stretch of games at home tonight again the Minnesota Wild. The Wild are tied for 5th in the NHL standings but have been off their game a little as of late. With a 2-3-2 record over their past 7 games, they’ll be hungry for a win in an attempt … Read more
Yesterday it was reported that the team could be without top defender Chris Tanev for the rest of the regular season, but we also learned that Dakota Joshua is out long term. For a run down on the injury bug, I’ll turn it over to Anna Dua. As we all know in Toronto, a “week” … Read more
Last night’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes was yet another microcosm of what is wrong with the Toronto Maple Leafs. As I watched William Nylander and Auston Matthews coast through the neutral zone on the backcheck with straight legs, as they watched a 4-on-3 develop and turn into a goal against (goal #2 of 5 … Read more
After last nights win against the Utah Mammoth, the Leafs now sit in 3rd in the Atlantic Division and 5th in the Eastern Conference. They’re just 2pts behind the division and conference leading… Montreal Canadiens? Huh. Good for them. It’s far too early in the season to watch the standings and that goes double in … Read more
We’ll start this Monday morning off with some good news: Many believed that Stolarz would sign an extension similar to Chicago’s Spencer Knight (3 years, $5.833M AAV), or even Seattle’s Joey Daccord (5 years, $5M AAV). If he had signed a similar deal it would have represented a bit of a gamble on the Leafs’ … Read more
Tyson Barrie has retired!!! It’s about time. The goaltending was solid this past season and we’re hoping to see more of that. The question moving forward in regards to the goaltending is this; if Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll continue to play well, but Stolarz continues to demand more minutes than Woll, do you re-sign … Read more
Nick Robertson has re-signed with the Leafs on a single year deal that pays $1.825M. The second youngest Leaf, after Matthew Knies, produced 15 goals and 22pts in 69 games last season, while adding 1 goal and 2pts in 3 playoff games. His absence from the playoff lineup had many, including myself, believing that he … Read more
I’m going to try to keep this one short and sweet, because for a lot of us math isn’t why we watch the game. I know that others only like the math and don’t watch the game, so for you I apologize, as this isn’t going to be a fun read. It seems that deferred … Read more
The current iteration of the Leafs blueline is the best we’ve seen in far, far too long. The group has solid size and their strength is their ability to defend, unlike previous groups that were too small and skilled to compete against bigger opponents. It’s for this reason that I wouldn’t be disappointed if they … Read more
Free agency is less than two weeks away and there really isn’t a lot of excitement surrounding it. When I’d imagine the end of the Core 4 era, it came via trade and offered hope via open capspace, returned assets and a new and more positive look to the roster. However, it’s Mitch Marner’s world … Read more
