With the financial issues put on the back burner, the NHL and NHLPA are now discussing a schedule, start date, and season length (among other things).
As things progress we should get more clarification on the rumoured “taxi squad” the NHL may allow teams to carry. I’m expecting the particulars of that agreement (or another one) to bail out teams like the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning, who are close to the cap ceiling while having key RFAs such as Mathew Barzal, Erik Cernak and Anthony Cirelli still unsigned.
It will be a cold day in hell when Gary Bettman leaves teams south of the border in cap hell. The question is how will he help them keep their teams together?
