With 6 of the 10 season matchups in the books, the Leafs lead this series 4-2.
Also, with the way the standings look right now, this could be the Leafs 1st round playoff opponent.
These teams haven’t met in the playoffs in over 40 years, so that could be interesting to say the least.
The only real chance that things could change may lie with the Vancouver Canucks. They’re 10pts behind Montreal for the final playoff spot in the North Division, but they have 5 games in hand. If they can catch fire, and if the Leafs can hand the Canadiens some losses (4 of the Habs last 9 games are against Toronto), then it’s possible that the standings can change.
As much as I’d love to see Montreal suffer through a year without the playoffs, I think the thought of seeing them kicked out of the 1st round at the hands of the Leafs is just too tempting to pass up.
That is, if the Leafs can manage to show up in the playoffs. Their recent track record is….. concerning.
But I digress. That’s a story for another day. Above all else they need to keep winning and that starts tonight, with Jack Campbell:
Newly acquired Nick Foligno will continue to skate on the top line, alongside Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner and he hasn’t looked out of place there:
To look at those lines and realize that they will have Zach Hyman and Riley Nash as options by the time the playoffs come around as well makes me smile. If they can’t win a playoff round with that roster you have to start wondering when fingers will start being pointed at management and the coaching staff.
Enjoy the game!!
GO LEAFS GO!!
