Loose Leafs

Steve Lorentz reminded us all that a terrible season for the team you’re on can have lingering effects…

Lorentz wasn’t nearly as effective last season as he was before, which has lead to many fans leaving him off of the teams opening roster. However, Lorentz is a good penalty killer, a big body that can play a physical game and a lover of the logo on the jersey. He’d have a spot on my team every day of the week. Hopefully with a new look in the bottom 6 and a new coach, the veteran can find his game again and get back to being a thorn in the oppositions side.

Artur Akhtyamov made quite a few 10 bell saves last night, forcing the Habs to go to overtime before they could secure the win in preseason action. His athleticism is very impressive, which makes me wonder if he’s going to force his way into the NHL sooner, rather than later.

Nick Blankenburgh also looked good last night. He’s not the biggest guy out there, but he has a good shot and blocked eight shots on the other end of the ice. If the Leafs can find room for him, he’d be a welcome addition to the 3rd pairing.

I couldn’t get the game that I wanted on television, so I missed Gavin McKenna’s preseason debut, but it sounds like it was positive…
