A few things have already happened leading up to the draft:
You have to assume that this takes Saros off the market, which means the Leafs’ goalie options via trade are shrinking fast. Darcy Kuemper returned to LA in a deal that saw the Washington Capitals obtain Pierre-Luc Dubois, while Jacob Markstrom has already been traded to the New Jersey Devils. If they aren’t partial to what they see in free agency then they could look to add Filip Gustavsson from Minnesota, John Gibson from Anaheim, or Tristan Jarry from Pittsburgh. Whether it’s via trade or free agency, options aren’t particularly encouraging. I think Leafs fans should pray to whichever deity they worship for a healthy and productive Joseph Woll next season.

I’m not sure if Tyler Myers would have been very high on the Leafs list of UFAs, nor the Leafs on his, but it just goes to show that this time of year will see a lot of players agree to terms with their current clubs, so the list of players currently available via free agency is about to plummet.
With that said, there are reports that Chris Tanev and Matt Roy are headed to market and that they’re very high on the list of players the Leafs covet. Chris Tanev, in particular, seems destined to be a Toronto Maple Leaf.
